. Kids gravitate to anything involving a computer
2. They can get comments and feedback which makes writing fun
3. They can share their writing with anyone in the world
4. The computer takes care of spelling and grammar so they can concentrate on the topic.
5. They can select their own topic (within reason!).
6. It improves their writing skills without them realizing it
7. They can add pictures, which makes the subject more interesting
8. It’s a lot easier to read than a hand written journal
9. They are writing with a purpose
10. It’s collaborative
11. It’s “real world learning” – that’s a current educational buzzword
12. Future job skills – so many companies have blogs these days
13. And most of all, because it’s fun!

My kids are too young to blog but maybe in the future. Happy TT.
Cool reasons! Maybe they'll start to teach blogging in school ;)
SC blogs, but it's on something called Imbee which means only people invited and approved by me can read it. And right now I think the only one reading it IS me :)
Most of the teens who use the computers here (mostly from public housing) seem to spend their computer time surfing MySpace and the like. It never fails to amaze me how these kids who don't read ANYTHING from a printed book will spend hours on the screen and seem to be have plenty of literacy skills to do so.
I wonder what would happen if they were required to blog for school. Would they really write something, or just sink back into their usual apathy?
PLUS
They can earn $$!! No more allowance! Yay!!
I do think it's a good idea, better than instant messenger anyway, but I'd want to preview some of those stories...ha ha... I'm remembering when my kids were young. Yikes they could tell some embarrassing stories.
