Most of the time the library shelves look like this:
Before
However thanks to some very hard work by my diligent assistant who walks on water they now look like this:
After!
This is a once a year occurrence, ranking right up there with the return of the swallows to Capistrano.

Be still my beating heart. That "after" picture is like nerdy-librarian porn.
I did that every day I worked in Children's at the Salt Lake City Main library. I had a 20 hour a week aide job, and it was an impressive collection, and I always left all the shelves tidy. It's not that hard, it just has to be all that your job entails. Such lovely zen work, if only I could have gotten paid enough to live on it.
I give a lot of credit to those people who work dilligently to keep a library in order. It can't be fun to have to clean up other people's easily avoidable messes all day long. The same goes for those folks who have to continually clean up dressing rooms that have been rudely left a mess.
Oh ha ha! Nerdy librarian porn! Too true.
Wow- send me your assistant!
Oh, the second picture makes my hand tremble and makes me really desire to grab and browse through each and every book on the shelves! Books are wonderful and children's books are the finest! To be a school librarian must be an awesome job!
I recently quit mid-MLS program, but I still love seeing a well-stocked bookshelf. I loved listening to my classmates who were specializing in children's librarianship b/c it really is true that you can influence the kids with great reading.
